You know, I’ve had this mixtape for about 3 and a bit months now and I’m only writing about it now.
Honestly this is robably the best mixtape I have at the moment in terms of the quality of all the tracks and how good the tunes are.
At first I only liked the mixtape based on the fact that it had that trapesque. Sound I was looking for at the time but, everytime I play this it gets better and better.
The style of Party Next Door is like a cross between Drake in terms of similar song structures with rap & sung segments on most tracks (one track features Drake also) mixed with lyrics and emotional content remeniscent of The Weeknd in that most tracks are about sex & getting faded…. yeah, id say that, Drake & The Weekend crossed.
In my opinion “party combines the best in terms of lyrics, sound and delivery of the two and produces top quality and original material.
Its difficult to say whether he is influenced by Drake or Drake is influenced by him as his style has a very similar sound but, at times there are things he does and that are in his tracks that you will hear from/on a Drake track that are totally in the Party.
My favourite tracks by far are : “right now” and “wus good/curious” these are mega modern R&B and Rap tracks.
Like I’ve said before, there was this eriod where there were no real deep R&B artists but a lot of pop/R&B cross over style artists which left us with the older dons like R.Kelly & JOE. But this mixtape proes that there is a re-birth of deep artists that have the same spirit of the older R&B guys and know how to make music for those of us that just can’t take the poppy commercial stuff that artists have been putting out.
Anyway, check out “Party Next Door” here Party Next Door
Yeah so, scouring Mixtape Monkey for R&B mixtapes (not very many actually) and this was on the last page.
The artwork is okay but nothing too interesting, so thank God for the track preview layer cause this thing has some tunes on it still.
I was initially impressed by the features on the project as they are quite high profile artists like Gucci Mayne, Miguel and Drake (a very young Drake I might add).
Despite the features though, I wasn’t bowled over by any of the tracks till No.5 “My Mine”, which doesn’t feature anyone but Jhene herself and man, its a tune! I’m bumpin it as I write this in draft on the underground till I get some signal to post (this stop a mile end isn’t long enough 😦
Anyway, solid female vocals, not trying to be anyone else like I think most other female R&B artists are doing at the moment sadly. I think the male R&B artists are really smashing it now especially as (not wanting to give too much credit too but) Drake has made the Rap/R&B crossover style popular over heavily R&B influenced trap beats, which has become almost an accepted standard for many new artists looking to have a similar influence on the scene and even by some of the more Hip-Hop purists who may have found more traditional R&B artists a little too soft.
Anyway, get the mixtape Here from Mixtape Monkey and give it a play through.
Toronto born, Austin based Tory Lanez killed it with this mixtape.
A good mix of Trap style Rap, Hip-Hop & R&B tracks.
I can hear influences in his music from a range of artists including Drake, Mobb Deep & Ginuwine.
There are a number of very good tracks on the project that I’ve had on repeat for at least half a day; the main one being, ‘Up fell in Love’, which was produced by ‘The Mekanics’ who are a pair of producers that are killing it right now abd have produced for loads of big names. If you don’t know, get to…
To sum up, good production and beats pretty much all round with at least 6 tracks you won’t skip and the tracks mix into each other with well constructed out and intros that bring the production values way way up in my opinion. Vocals are well delivered but, be warned that Lanez uses auto tune quite a lot and it is obvious on most tracks especially the more R&B ones but, that said, lends to the style of his sound so doesn’t really bother me but it may some who don’t like auto tune.
The project is also a concept album (as it wer) based around Tory’s antics with his boys and a relationship he is having with a girl who is already in a relationship. Parts of the story play out throughout the mix tape in the form of in and outtros and interludes.
I downloaded the mixtape Here from Mixtape Monkey which is where I tend to get all my mixtapes from these days. So go get it and play it.
Here is Tory’s Soundcloud if you don’t feel like downloading the mixtape.
